THIRD LESSON

  • WRITING A REPORT
  1. What is the aim of your report?
  2. How did you get your information?
  3. What were your main findings?
  4. What suggestions would you make based on these findings?
1. The aim of my report is to provide more information for first year students to help them adjust to university life

2. I get this information interviewing other second and third year students, using my questionnaire

3. My main findings are:
- what kind of difficulties the students had in them first year of university
- if the LUISS's website can help them to resolve these problem
- if it is necessary to attend all courses

4. I would make them some suggestions: for exemple to check sometimes LUISS's website and, if you can't or don't want attend all courses, to attend the courses of more important subjets

REPORT _ Some suggestions to “freshers”

This report is intended to provide more information for first year students to help them adjust to university life. I interviewed other second and third year students, using my questionnaire.

A lot of students believe that it is difficult to find a flat in Rome above all in their first year because they don’t know the city and they haven’t new friends that can suggest them. In fact they said also that it is difficult to make new friends.

Moreover some students had a problem with their studies: the books are more difficult than secondary school books and they didn’t get on well with their old studies method.

Another question that I asked is if, in their opinion, is necessary to attend all courses. Many respondents think that it is important to attend all courses because it helps you to understand the books better. Otherwise others don’t agree with them.

In view of this I would suggest to all first year student that they check LUISS’s website sometimes because there are, on notice board, announcements about rent in flats. There are the names of so-called tutors that can help and can recommend studies methods and another problems. Moreover this website should advertise more student social events, as this is a good opportunity to make new friends.

Finally I think that if you can’t or if you don’t want to attend all courses, you should keep it in the present the courses of more important subjects.

Good luck to all first year students!

If you have any questions I’ll be happy to answer them.

TOPIC TWO: PRONUNCIATION &PHONETIC

Last year I didn't use the phonetics symbols.

I didn't know to read them and I didn't often know to pronunce well the words with the correct accent.

Now I think that they are surely useful but not enough. The good way to learn the pronunciation is to listen to his own English teacher (better if he is a native speaker) and to watch many films in original language.

I think that the phonetics symbols can help you with the pronunciation but they make you also understand the correct accent of the words.
